Mugaritz Restaurant, San Sebastian

On a recent trip to Europe, I was very fortunate to dine at the impressive Mugaritz Restaurant in San Sebastian, Spain. Voted the world’s fourth best restaurant, we were treated to a delectable 21 course degustation menu for lunch.

Every course was a work of art; from the baked potatoes made to look and feel like hot stones, to the pigs blood chocolate macaroons. We were certainly taken off guard by the dishes more than once, and were treated to delicious local wines and the friendliness of the Mugaritz staff. Along with the impressive food display, a meeting with the head chef saw us enter the majestic three-storey commercial kitchen; the magnificent cooktops and vast workspaces were imposing, to say the least!

The restaurant setting was warm, comfortable and very chic indeed. Dark timber cladding and grey tiled floors contrasted beautifully with the crisp table linen, and there was great ambience about the place. It was an unforgettable experience and something we won’t forget in a hurry! If you’re travelling to San Sebastian, you must give Mugaritz a whirl! To see photos on their website, click here.
