The Bean Cartel

Melbourne coffee experts engaged Hot Black to re-brand their well established coffee roastery in the lead up to the opening of their first tasting room. The Bean Cartel opted to turn their current brand on it’s head in a bid to stand out from Melbourne’s bustling coffee scene. A key focus throughout the project was to promote engagement with both new & current clientele. The opening of their tasting room enabled a bold, branded space where customers can try a wide range of coffee and learn from the roasters behind the operation.

We looked to push the boundaries with the brand strategy & identity, whilst channelling ‘underworld’ themes. The new visual identity couldn’t be further from their beginnings, with bold typography & iconography referencing Aztec design themes. The brand strategy & roll out was designed to be engaging and educational for the end user. Each blend takes on names of Cartel members with the graphic elements referencing Mexican gambling cards.
