Robinson’s Bookshop

Robinson’s Bookshop engaged Hot Black to design their latest retail environment at the recently developed Eastland Shopping Centre. Located within the outdoor town square, the tenancy had direct connection to the exterior piazza neighbouring a variety of restaurants and boutique retailers.

A dramatic double height tenancy allowed for a concept where 100 books float over the entry point, surrounded by magical mural depicting the story ‘The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore’. Ambient lighting integrated within the joinery to enhance the “old world” library feel with deep tones of timber accented by brass fittings.

About Robinson’s Bookshop
Their history dates back to 1963 when Philip and Moira Robinson opened Robinson’s Bookshop in the main Frankston shopping precinct known as ‘Frankston’s Central Carpark’. At that time the Frankston Library was yet to be established and it was a rare treat to find a bookshop anywhere. This makes Robinson’s the Oldest General Independent Bookshop in Victoria. They celebrated their 50th birthday in 2013.
