Prince Alfred Hotel

Hot Black was engaged for the reinvention of the Carlton Institution, Prince Alfred, located opposite Melbourne University. The botanical suburb is best known for its Italian influence and developing urban environment.

The design concept by Hot Black is going to bring a whole new life to this ‘watering hole’ and transform it into a destination reflecting the medical, student and local demographic population. With a heritage overlay, the concept has been developed to reflect a 2-level pub and dining experience with an urban medical twist. Prince Alfred references the old, whilst celebrating the new. The quirky take on British Royalty results in a modern interpretation of the classic monarchy, with a deep blue palate, copper detailing and flamboyant design. Shipping containers can be found wedged into the side of the building, hosting two on-trend restaurant chains, and the interior gives a reinvented nod towards the traditional English pub vibe.
